Since it was such a success last year the Shrimp Easting contest will be part of the Lions Shrimp Festival again this year. The Shrimp Eating Championship will be held on Sunday, March 12, at 1pm at the expo grounds at Lynn Hall Park.
The eating contest will feature 10 sponsored contestants who will compete to eat as much cooked and peeled Ft. Myers Beach Pink Shrimp they can in a five-minute timeframe. Contestants will be aided by assistants who will distribute the shrimp in pre-weighed portions. Judges will watch over the contest to make sure all shrimp go into the contestant and whoever eats the most shrimp within the five minutes’ wins! Another accolade up for grabs again this year is the popular “People’s Choice Award.” This achievement is won by the contestant who collects the most money in donations from the crowd. “You can be sure that no contestant will go away hungry” said event chair, Lion Shelby Peters. “We are in search of 'celebrity eaters' to join in the activities this year and have issued a challenge to the public in search of a contestant to take the tile away from 2-time winner, Carl the King!"
Also needed are sponsors for the event. Sponsors and their eating contestant will receive promotional inclusion in the printed and social media venues promoting the festival, as well as, participate in the parade on Saturday, March 11, 2017.
Sponsorships are $250 with all proceeds to Lions Charities.
Shrimp will be provided by the Ft. Myers Beach Shrimping Fleet.
Remember to eat pink. Our local shrimp are pink and it keeps our businesses and community in the gold!
