DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] \nHistoric Blessing of the Fleet\, Sunday Service\n Join Saint Raphael’s Episcopal Church & the Fort Myers Beach Shrimping Fleet for a traditional Sunday mass service followed by the historic blessing of the fleet.\n[/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=”Order of events:” font_container=”tag:h2|text_align:left|color:%2381d742″ google_fonts=”font_family:Henny%20Penny%3Aregular|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal”][vc_column_text]Once again\, St. Raphael’s Church will be involved in the Blessing of the Fleet on March 15\, 2026. This is a religious ceremony rooted in the maritime tradition of praying for the safety of the crews\, a bountiful season\, and protection over the boats and the industry. The Blessing begins at 10 AM with a service on the shrimp docks which includes prayers\, songs\, and readings. After the service\, the Bishop will walk along the docks and individually bless each boat with holy water. \nWhat began as a simple blessing in the late 1950s evolved over the decades into the Fort Myers Beach Shrimp Festival — a much larger\, two-day community celebration that still features the Blessing of the Fleet as a key event each March. \nThis year\, the Blessing is scheduled for a week after the Shrimp Festival and will include an opportunity for all watercraft to receive a Blessing. After blessing the docked shrimp boats\, the Bishop will board a private vessel and will bless any private or commercial craft that drives by. The Bishop’s boat will be in the area around the bridge. We encourage all boaters to come out\, receive a blessing\, and enjoy the beautiful waters surrounding our island.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

DESCRIPTION:The Fort Myers Beach Lions Club has announced the return of their most “fulfilling” addition to their world-famous annual event\, the Annual Shrimp Festival Shrimp Eating Championship. \nThe contest will feature up to 10 sponsored contestants who will compete to eat as many pounds of cooked and peeled Ft. Myers Beach Pink Gold Shrimp within 8 minutes. Contestants will be aided by assistants who will divvy out the shrimp to them in pre-weighed portions. Whoever eats the most within the eight minutes wins! Also up for grabs is “People’s Choice.” This ranking is won by collecting online donations from supporters for the contestant with their vote to win. \nHave you cameras and video recorders going! You won’t believe your eyes. Cheer on your favorite. This Championship has become an Island tradition. Will the reigning champion\, King Daniel\, with a 3.2lb’s in 8min record return to compete and defend his title or will a new champ gobble up the competition? Come out and support fan favorites such as Snack Jack as they shovel local Pink Gold down and raise money for the Lions charities of those in need. \nShrimp will be provided by the Ft.
